To manually update the firmware, put the new firmware named as `update.zip` onto the root directory of the microSD card.
|
||||
Then do this: (found at [androidspin.com](http://forum.androidspin.com/showthread.php?t=2631))

- power off the phone
|
||||
- hold down the trackball and press the Power button.
|
||||
- you'll get a white screen with three Android robots on skateboards → select *Bootloader*
|
||||
- now select *Recovery*
|
||||
- the phone will reboot showing a robot and a warning sign
|
||||
- now press Power and Volume up together (if it doesn't work the first time, try again)
|
||||
- now choose *Apply sdcard:update.zip* (use trackball!)
|
||||
- wait for it to finish
|
||||
- choose *Reboot now*
|

To add custom sounds to your Android phone, create the following folders on your SD-card:
|

/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
|
||||
/sdcard/media/audio/alarms
|
||||
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
|

Now you can put your MP3 sound files into these folders and they will appear upon the tone selection
|
||||
dialogs. (You may have to wait a while until they appear, maybe even have to reboot the phone.)

||||

On older Android phones, you might have to create the folders `ringtones`, `alarms` and `notifications` in the root
|
||||

Android 2.2 (Codename: **Fro**zen **Yo**ghurt) brings a new feature which allows moving apps to the SD card.
|
||||
Unfortunately this only works for apps which bring a flag to allow this, i.e. not for the current versions.
|
||||
|
||||
To enable this globally, activate USB debugging and plug the phone to your computer. Make sure,
|
||||
you have the Android SDK installed and `cd`'ed to the `tools/`-dir.
|
||||
|
||||
Now run
|
||||
|
||||
sudo ./adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2
|
||||
|
||||
Valid values are:
|
||||
|
||||
* `0` --- Automatic (app decides, default)
|
||||
* `1` --- internal memory preferred
|
||||
* `2` --- storage card preferred
